Gianandrea Mannarini
Gianandrea Mannarini, PhD, MIMarEST, is a senior scientist at the “Ocean Predictions and Applications” Division of the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (Fondazione CMCC).
His research activity aims to improve Maritime Transportation by means of the meteo-oceanographic information and data analysis. Starting in 2012, he designed and implemented VISIR (https://visir-model.net), a ship routing model for safer and more efficient navigation.
Among Dr. Mannarini’s research interests is the environmental impact of maritime transportation, especially in reference to climate change. In this respect, he coordinates the Italy-Croatia Interreg project GUTTA (https://gutta-visir.eu), aiming at the operational reduction of CO2 emissions from Ro-Pax vessels in the Adriatic Sea. He is also member of the IMarEST working group on GHG policy.
Dr. Mannarini has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed publications. He holds a PhD in Theoretical Physics issued from the Humboldt- Universität zu Berlin – Germany in 2005 and a MSc degree in Physics from the Università degli Studi di Pisa – Italy.
